Thankful

Today I am thankful for many things.

I am thankful for the relationship that Ben and I have and for every day that we get to spend together.

I am thankful that I have a job that I enjoy.

I am thankful for empty airports on Thanksgiving Day.

I am thankful for moms that make huevos rancheros for breakfast.

I am thankful for nieces and nephews that are excited and run to hug me when I visit.

I am thankful for National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.

I am thankful for wonderfully awesome and funny friends to drink with, eat with and karaoke with. Especially the ones that keep having super cute babies for me to coo over.

I am thankful for fat fuzzy cats and snuggly slobbery dogs.

I am thankful for pies. And cookies. And pastries in general.

I have been incredibly blessed and fortunate this year so there are many more things that I am thankful for, but the tryptophan is kicking in and a vegetative state is imminent.

What are you thankful for this year?

My Thanksgiving Table

As Thanksgiving approaches, I think the thing I am most looking forward to is the food. I know…total surprise there. Our family is pretty traditional in that we pretty much cook the same stuff every year and this is pretty much the only time of year that we will make these dishes. Some of them will make a brief reappearance at Christmas dinner, but for the most part they are “Thanksgiving only” dishes.

Here is what will be on our Thanksgiving table this year:

Roasted Turkey (obvs)
Cornbread stuffing
Giblet gravy
Mashed Potatoes
Sweet Potato Souffle with crunchy pecan topping
Cranberry sauce (although we’ve moved away from the canned jellied kind to the chunky kind)
Corn Casserole
Deviled Eggs (special request by me)
Yeast Rolls
Some sort of green vegetable
Obligatory canned olives
Lots and Lots of Pies

What will be on your Thanksgiving table this year?

RIP (Almost)

My beloved apple green Dell computer is currently on life support.

Words like trojan, malware, virus and security breach are being thrown around. Emergency online backup of files, pictures and bookmarks has commenced. Passwords are being changed.

There is a small chance of survival, but the doctor (Dr. Ben, that is) is not confident that full recovery is possible. It may be a day or two before we know for sure.

I can’t help but go over and over in my mind the last moments I spent with my Dell before she….crashed. Would things have been different if I had been reading The Pioneer Woman or Joy the Baker rather than Perez Hilton? I suppose I’ll never know.

Damn you, Perez Hilton!

I’ll keep you updated.

Real Life

Me: Do you want to watch Rubicon or something?

Ben: Whatever.

Me: Or are you totally into The Devil Wears Prada now?

Ben: I was mostly just watching it for the cute outfits.

That totally just happened.

Love is a Battlefield…

The karaoke…

It is serious.
