I’m still here!

Thought you’d gotten rid of me, huh?  Nope!  No such luck.  Just a lot of activity.

We got our first wedding gift!  It’s a 5 quart Staub Cocotte that I”ve been coveting for years…maybe even longer than I coveted the KitchenAid mixer.  I can’t believe someone actually got it for me.  All my dreams are coming true!  The color is “Pesto” and it’s a beautiful not-too-dark-not-too-bright green.

Hello lovely!

In other wedding news, I finally found a hair piece that matches the color of my wedding dress. This is mainly news because I actually did buy two others (and returned one) that ended up not matching. I had no idea it would be this difficult. I bought this one on Etsy and was able to email the maker a picture of my dress so that she could pick the right color feathers. Perfect! And it also matches the earrings I got for my wedding ensemble as well!

I also finally got a job! (cue fireworks and angel chorus) I am now the Executive Assistant to the CEO at the American Red Cross of Central Texas. The “of Central Texas” is important because the American Red Cross has a bunch of chapters and each chapter operates independently. We serve nine counties in the Central Texas area and provide disaster assistance in situations from tornadoes and hurricanes to single family house fires and apartment fires. We also provide all types of safety and first aid training including workplace training. It’s a lot of learning right off the bat, but I’m just happy to have somewhere to get up and go every day.

And, in true form, to celebrate I made myself this cake:

Summer Berry Cake

I found the recipe for this cake on one of my new favorite blogs, Joy The Baker. Joy is also responsible for the awesomeness that was the peanut butter bacon cookies. I’ve  also spent all day looking at my favorite new blog Hyperbole and a Half. I could actually do a whole blog post on my favorite blogs.

Anyway.   Here’s another picture of cake!

More Cake!

I’ve even decided to do an overhaul of my cookbook collection. I know I have at least 10 that I keep around because I tell myself I’m going to make something from them one day dammit! But I never do. So I’ve decided to let them go and bring in more cookbooks from chefs that I’ve actually heard of and love.

This is my first new cookbook purchase:

In my opinion, Mr. Lebovitz is the King of Dessert.  He’s talented, funny, fabulous and he lives in Paris.  And he writes another one of my favorite blogs.  His other two dessert cookbooks are out of print, but he’s taken his favorite recipes from those books, along with some new ones, and corralled them into this book.  I can’t wait to get this in my grubby little hands!

I also fear that my parsley plant is dying a slow and painful death.  Sigh.

And that’s all the news that’s fit to print.  For now.  I’ll try and be better about blogging more often, I promise.

I wonder what kind of news there may be, NOT fit for print???

  2. Halley says:

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!! I’m sooo happy for you! And the hair peice is fabulous! :)

  3. Mom says:

Hooray for the job! I’m so glad for you. Future looks brighter and brighter every day. What are you going to do with the cookbooks you don’t want? You can never have too many. Re-read them. You might find a reason to keep them.

  4. Sarah says:

Spoken like a true hoarder, Mom :)
